The academies are designed to offer challenging and engaging opportunities both in and out of the classroom for students in the field of performing arts, recreation education/health, and technology. These academies encourage students to become more critical and creative thinkers as well as "risk-takers". Participating students will learn leadership skills as well as project management skills.
These academies are an integral part of our CRD completer program and our STEAM program at The Harbour School. In their first year of high school students will participate in the production studio as part of our Career Center. The students will also have the opportunity to participate in some job shadowing and volunteer job experiences in the academy areas.
In addition to courses required for graduation the students enrolled in the academies will complete additional credits in the academy area. The academy students will engage in leadership roles in some of the after-school activities, such as team sports and theatre arts performances. The students will also undertake an independent seminar in their final year of high school. The students will work with academy mentors to develop the topics and scopes of their independent studies. The background work for these seminars will be completed outside of the school day.
Students who complete the academies will receive special recognition at their graduation ceremony. Their transcripts will reflect their participation in and completion of the academy.
